TEHRAN--In a letter to United Nations Resident Coordinator Consuelo Vidal, Mapna Managing-Director Mohammad Ibrahim Mosalla said that five Iranian technicians Sajjad Amirian, Ahmad Sohrabi Kertabad, Hassan Hassani, Majid Ganbari Bidromi, Kioumars Gobadi working for Zagros industrial company, a subsidiary to Mapna, were kidnapped on their way to Jondar power plant in the Syrian province of Homs on Tuesday morning December 20.

Mosalla said that a day later another engineer Pejman Bouyeri from Parsian Post company, a contractor to Mapna and Abdul Khaleq Sahneh, Health and Safety Executive, were also kidnapped when they were looking for their colleagues.

He said that Tehran-based Mapna has been the main contractor of the project adding that the company is a reputable power plant executive which has been placed on the United Nations Vendor list.
Mosalla said that Mapna has also undertaken to implement another power plant in Tishrin.

Abducted Iranian Engineers Identified:

TEHRAN--Five Iranian electrical engineers and technicians were abducted on December 20 in the restive Syrian city of Homs by unknown armed gunmen. The engineers were kidnapped on their way to a power plant.

Two other Iranian engineers were also abducted in the same city a day later.

The five engineers who have been building the city's Jandar power plant for the past two years are: electrical engineer and caretaker of electrical equipment testing group Sajad Amirian; technician and the workshop caretaker Ahmad Sohrabi; technician and electrical equipment installer Hassan Hassani; technician and installer of testing equipment of electrical equipment Majid Ghanbari; and technician and electrical equipment installer Qumars Ghobadi.

The two other Iranian experts - electrical engineer Pejman Boyeri and MAPNA employee Abdolkhalegh Sahne - who were trying to clarify the destiny of the five engineers, were also kidnapped and there has been no valid report on their whereabouts.

The paper said the report identified the dead as Dr. Omar Sodani, Ali Abuzieh, Matouk Matouk and Abdul Ghadir Baghdadi. The paper stated: 'Officially they were found guilty of failing in their objective while 'on active service' in Britain--to seek out and quell activities of Khadafy dissidents in exile. The forensic evidence ties up with all that has been gathered by security officials from MI5 and indeed the police who eavesdropped into conversations in 5 St. James Square when it was put under siege. Two Libyans have been identified by security and the police as the likely murderers. Mr. Brian Arnold, a police forensic expert, said at the reopened inquest: 'I examined 12 bullets. Two of these were in near perfect condition and the rest in various stages of damage. 'I was satisfied that nine were fired from the same weapon.' The jury heard evidence from another forensic specialist, Mr. Robin Keely, who said at the end of the siege he found traces of firearm residue at two windows within the bureau. These deposits were consistent with firearms being discharged from two windows on the first floor of the bureau. A workman brought in to erect barriers around the square told the coroner that men from the bureau had warned him of forthcoming violence. Mr John Sullivan told the jury that somebody from the people's bureau objected to the erection of barriers and declared: 'We have guns here. There is going to be fighting here today.'"
